During the German invasion of Byelorussia, young Florya is sent into the forest against the wishes of his family to join the weary Resistance fighters, despite the wishes of his family. During the trip to his village, he meets a girl named Glasha, who accompanies him back home. When Florya returns home, he finds that his family and fellow peasants have been massacred. Attempting to survive amidst the brutal debris of war becomes increasingly nightmarish as it becomes a battle between hopelessness and despair.
