The story takes place on death row in a Southern prison where a gentle giant named John Coffey possesses a mysterious power that allows him to heal people suffering from many ailments. Coffey’s miraculous gift is recognized by the block’s head guard, Paul Edgecomb, who tries desperately to prevent the condemned man from being executed by trying to stand in front of his cell block.
