In the aftermath of The Desolation of Smaug, Bilbo and the dwarves try to defend Erebor’s mountain of treasure from those who claim it: the men of the ruined Laketown and the elves of Mirkwood, both of whom wish to possess it. Meanwhile, an army of Orcs led by Azog the Defiler is marching on Erebor, fueled by Sauron’s rise to power, and they are under the command of Azog the Defiler. It is Bilbo’s hands that hold the hope for Middle-Earth, as he must unite the dwarves, the elves and the men.
